2003-05-24 11:59 PM Necessary props BH: 596; Chapter 5 edited, Chapter 6 started
Rejection from Warner Books today, declining to see What Beck’ning Ghost. It was one of those weird form rejections that doesn’t really fit what was sent—it included an apology for not providing a detailed critique, but all I sent them was a synopsis. Oh well. I need to send follow-ups to the two other publishers to whom I sent proposals, and send out a couple more. Started playing with web site stuff today. I do _not_ need another project like this! Argh! Went to a lovely little pagan shop for ingredients for rose beads, and also got a mortar and pestle and a magazine. Failed to find another pagan shop for the one ingredient I still need. Bought various bits at Home Depot. Came home, repotted mint and ivy. I feel so domestic. Did I mention we’ve also been cleaning/straightening? Ack. If my current rate of work on BH continues (i.e., a chapter a day), then I’ll have the entire thing out to critiquers by the end of the month. Whew! It’s so amazingly overdue. Then I’m going back to ALNM—and nagging Sarah (Hi, Sarah! Love you!) to do so as well. I fear we might work better together…I’m dreaming of using frequent flyer miles… There’s no good reason why we shouldn’t have a draft of it finished in June. (For some weird reason, June is going to be a really low SCA month for us. We’re not going to Coronation/Queen’s Champion or Festival of the Rose because they’re _both_ in Vegas, and we can’t justify the cost. That just leaves Gyldenholt Anniversary, which is a definite, and one other event that’s a probable.) Sometimes, props are necessary. I’ve lit a candle in the sea rock I found in Lincoln City, I’ve got some incense burning, and I’m wearing my “writing ring”. Loreena McKennitt on iTunes. Time to focus… …and there, Chapter 5’s done, and I even did a little work on Chapter 6. [buff nails on shirt] And I proofread half of the Society Rapier Manual.
