Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

His head doesn't glimmer

Most days, I wake up ready to tackle the things that need to be done. Today was one of those more rare days when I wake up and want to stay in bed because everything seems too difficult to deal with. I’m starting to wonder if there’s a direct correlation between this and whether or not the dishes were done the night before.

Happier than yesterday (and yesterday wasn’t all that bad, considering)—I now have a keyboard that works with my Palm! A Belkin Pro Series. Popped the software in, and it worked—which is how it’s supposed to go. It’s still a wee bit smaller than I’d prefer, but not so much that it will bug me. So I can use the Palm on planes, and can go to B&N. Or just outside or into the library. A plus of this one over my old one (apart from the fact that this one works with my new Palm), is that it doesn’t want to collapse when it’s open, so I don’t _need_ a hard surface to put it on.

Darling Meglet is going to spend the weekend with us. She was supposed to be having a garage sale with a friend, so Matt and Julian made plans in San Diego with his parents. Friend bailed, so Meglet’s coming here. I’ll have to lock myself in the study each day to keep up on the copy editing, but otherwise I see sewing and movie-watching and eating (she likes to cook for us! A trait we encourage in our friends.) in our near future. I also want to go to the good used bookstore, because I just got a 25% off coupon from them.

Meanwhile, I’m getting excited about our proposed bike trip in October. It’s still in the vague stages. We know we want to go to AR to visit Ken’s grandmother, who’s not going to be with us much longer. We want to visit our friends Margaret and Simon in NM, and Roswell is a day trip from their place. Beyond that, we’re open to suggestion. (The 2003 Rough Guide to the Southwest is officially on order for us at B&N, with a 29 Sep delivery date.) Anybody ever been in the southwest US and can recommend any cool stuff? Twisty fun roads, ancient Indian ruins, etc?

I said awhile back that I was getting the travel urge again. This trip is definitely going to help with that! Ah, the freedom of getting on the bike and just playing…

Reason #742 why it’s hard to work from home: When I see an author named Rimmer, the Arnold Rimmer Song from “Red Dwarf” gets stuck in my head. But not knowing the lyrics, I have to look them up. (Note: The Internet is a glorious and amazing thing.) Then I have to read the Space Corps Directives. Out loud to Ken. Much time passes while I fail to get any work done.
