Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

You'll WANT to get in the left lane...

AETW: 680
exercise: 30 CT, 1 abs

One of the things that interests me is the history of the Bible. Not just of the Bible as a physical book, but what was going on at the time it was written, and how that influenced the Bible. For example, I’m given to understand that the “no meat on Fridays” thing came from a secular/governmental law to boost the fish industry, which was flagging. I haven’t tracked this down to verify it, but it fascinates me that an economic measure eventually mutated into a religious edict. As I’ve probably said before, I believe it’s vital to know where things come from, _why_ we have this or that tradition. I’m not good at blindly following; I don’t buy the excuse “Because we’ve always done it that way”. (Why did you start doing it that way? And is that way still valid today?) And don’t you _dare_ tell me “The Bible says so”, because I will grill you on which version of the Bible, etc., and we’ll get right back around to what it meant in the context of the time it was written…

Anyway, my point is, Will Shetterly has posted some information on the Three Wise Men/Magi, and I learned a lot, and wanted to post the link:

I got distracted and started working on our holiday newsletter today. Last-minute as always. I’m not doing a full design this year. Just one picture (in colour) and text. I’d like to get it done before the new year, and I think I can. But I finally had to stop, because I have other things I need to do today.

I’ve answered a bunch of e-mail, updated my weekly To Do list, and am taping stuff off the DVR. I need to get some writing done, though, and then exercise.

Ken comes home tomorrow! Well, tomorrow for him, as it’s already Tuesday in Korea. I have to wait until Wednesday to see him.

I’m trying to get the energy to write a little more before bed. I wrote 600+ words earlier, and was given an interesting note by my subconscious, but now I’m feeling blank, because I’m tired. Phooh. I need to get up to 1K/day (I need to get up to much more than that, but that’s my first goal). Tomorrow I want to focus on “Dyeing”.

Wednesday, however, I’m taking off. Taking off from almost everything. There will be no writing (unless I’m really struck by something), no eating well, no exercising (except, well, ahem). There will be picking Ken up from the airport, and lunch at Baja Fresh, and “Return of the King”. That’s as far as we’ve planned. The evening may be pizza and several eps of “Angel” and other saved TV shows.

I’ll have a new Sage journal on Wednesday, but hopefully I can get started on it early, and then I’ll hit it hard on Thursday, when I’ll also get back into the writing and exercising groove. And I’ll work on the GP throughout the week.

A few more words down, but I’m really fading. More tomorrow!
