Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

But you can call me Grumpy...

Just got home from dropping Sarah off at the airport. Grumpy now. Will try to amuse self by making a database of the Styx concerts I’m going to this year, as the number has grown larger than my brain can handle. Nine, it looks like so far. I have tickets to some but not for others, etc.

It’s kind of sad when the first (and so far only) birthday card you get is from your finance guy.

I don’t want to do anything on my To Do list today, really. I have to answer e-mail and file (and, I suppose, along with that I should clean the study a little bit). I’ve puttered in the kitchen and living room, putting things away and generally tidying, but that’s about it. I also have to work on the synopsis for ALNM, which we wrote last night (albeit very tipsily), and write some scenes to add to the first few chapters. Meanwhile, Sarah’s going to do a close edit of the first three chapters (some scenes need expanding), and we plan to have all that put together by Thursday.

Okay, it’s much later now. I’ve answered most of the e-mail, watched a fair amount of TV to catch up, and sent the electronic version of a story to a magazine that bought it about 4 years ago—it’s going to be in the next issue, _finally_! I did some filing, but not all of it. I started reading the synopsis, but got distracted. Now, I’m not sure if we’re going to watch a little more TV, or whether we should take our respective laptops and curl up in bed and be total geeks.

I don’t know what to do on my birthday. My present was Sarah visiting (we paid for her flight), so I’m not expecting a pile o’gifts from Ken. I did request that we take the car to the cleaning place and get it cleaned inside and out, and I suggested maybe we go look at new sewing machines, which we’ve been planning to do anyway. But I can’t decide what else. Go to the beach and have a picnic? Check out the Peruvian restaurant we found? Go to the movies (we have free passes)? Maybe I’m just too tired to make any decisions right now.

I’m also too tired to finish typing up the rest of Sarah’s visit, but I will tomorrow. Off to collapse now.
