She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Elk, or maybe blurry deer

Before I go forward, two things I forgot to mention yesterday:

We saw elk! Not in the road, or even by the side of the road, but at an “elk viewing area” just off the road. They were pretty far off in the meadow, so they just looked like blurry deer to me.

I’ve decided to go to the OCW novel workshop and stay up there the week between. June will be a very crazy month, but I think it’ll be worth it in the long run. Actually, next week will be crazy while I try to get Rowan revised, host a visit from Albra for two days, go to a Queensrÿche concert, and lord knows what else.

Another gorgeous day of redwoods and rocky surf. I was Adjective Girl yesterday and seem to have used them all up.

We’re in Santa Cruz tonight. I’ve heard good things about it, but as we rolled in at about 8:30 p.m., we haven’t seen much of it. Thus we’ll have to come back! We’re in a motel that’s supposed to have wireless in all rooms, but it’s not working, which is quite annoying. There are some things I wanted to look up, and I would’ve liked to e-mail Dean to let him know about the workshop, etc. But we’ll be home tomorrow night, and I can get caught up then.

We were silly tourists today and stopped at one of those giant redwoods that you can drive through. A nice older couple with two yappy-type dogs took pictures of us. (I’ll post pictures eventually. We didn’t take a lot, but we got a few amusing ones along the way.)

We got into San Francisco at the tail end of rush hour, and stopped for Chinese food before continuing on. Since we wanted to get here in reasonable time, we took the 101 and 17. We’ll get back on the 1 tomorrow.

Now I’m off to ready myself for bed and curl up with a book and my beloved.
