Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Grumpy

What did you call me?!

Yesterday’s Words Written: more AETW chapters edited

Today’s Words Written: nada

I’m in a grumpy mood today, so I probably won’t say much today. May even be quiet for a few days until I slap myself hard enough to break out of the mood. It’s stupid, because on some levels I’m really happy and extraordinarily appreciative of what I have. I’m just grumpy. I feel argumentative and negative. (I have two things to critique for people right now, which means I really have to fight this…)

It’s like this: My hair was bugging me so I took locks of hair on either side in the front and made narrow braids so the hair didn’t fall into my face anymore (and make me grumpy). Ken walked by and called me “Braidy Girl”. He was smiling; plus he noticed my hair, and let’s face it, a complaint of women everywhere is that their male partners don’t notice when they change their hair. And my reaction was, “What the fuck does that mean? ‘Braidy Girl’! It sounds like you’re making fun of me!”—even though I knew full well that he wasn’t making fun of me. It was just the first thing that came to mind. (And I didn’t say it out loud like that, so don’t worry that I’m being an abusive snarly wife to my unsuspecting and truly wonderful husband.)

It’s also like this: Cat gave me a page-a-day calendar again this year, of 365 New Words. Which is awesomely cool. But I finally opened it today (I know, how lame am I?), and one of the first pages was the pronunciation guide. It’s a page-a-day calendar! You rip off pages! Why put the bleeding pronunciation guide first, where it will promptly get ripped off?! Dufuses.

Ooh, got final copy editing edits back on my BattleCorps story. I feel so…professional.

We picked up Morgana & Brian at the airport tonight after their 3-week vacation in Oregon. Their plane was delayed, and we got final arrival info after we were on the road, so we had some time to kill. We’d chosen to go down the coast because Highway 1 is, well, stunningly gorgeous, and also has less traffic, generally. Once we got down to LAX, we shot by and went to a cushy uppercrust mall, where I bought a birthday present for one of my sisters and a half-price Godiva dark chocolate Santa, which we snarfed down after sharing a Caesar salad. Then we found a sofa and read for a bit before heading back to the airport.

On the way home, we stopped for supper at Versailles. Mmmmm, I am very garlicky now. And I brought more than half of it home for lunch tomorrow. Mmmmm.

I spent most of today answering e-mail and dealing with Black Oak Lodge stuff. Thankfully tomarrah is anuthah day.

Right. Time to go watch “Lost” and maybe something else. Gotta get our “Lost” fix in, at least. What an amazing show.
