Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Sightings and non-sightings

Slow start this morning. We had to get up early for breakfast because Ken’s running the tech session today. I went back to the cottage afterwards and went back to bed. Still sleepy (I don’t think I slept well), headachey. I sort of dozed, enough that I was more awake, at any rate. A long, hot shower helped, too, although I’m still a little off-kilter overall. I’m just taking it easy.

Then I did some research for another anthology story (due tomorrow, but we’ll be on a ride tomorrow, so I’d better get the damn thing done today) and wrote a little bit, and then decided to wander over to the lodge. Now I’m sipping an excellent mocha and frequently pausing to gaze over the grandeur of the Grand Tetons, rising sharply above the raggedy field and indigo lake. Definitely have to take a walk today…

Yesterday was quiet and pleasant. I wrote a short story for a contest and fired it off to Teresa for a quick crit. We had breakfast in the famous Mural Room and buffalo burgers for lunch. We did laundry, which was a good thing because I was completely out of socks. We went to a reception and ate hors d’oeuvres for dinner. We greatly amused people by sitting side-by-side with our Apple laptops.

Much later now. I should be in bed, really; it’s almost 10:30 and we have to be up early for a long ride through Yellowstone. Teresa kindly did a quick crit of my story, I made some changes to it, and now it’s off. Not sure if I’ll get the other story done in time. The long ride may jolt some ideas free, and then I could stay up late tomorrow finishing it. Friday will be mellow; we may go for a float ride (where you float down the river on big rafts and look at wildlife) or a walk or a short ride, and then there’s the big banquet in the evening.

Tonight we rode down to Jackson Hole for dinner. I was disappointed that I didn’t spot Harrison Ford… Oh well. On the way back, in deep twilight, we passed three antelope and were dive-bombed by a bat.

it’s always an adventure!
