2006-01-05 11:59 PM Of burgundy, hummingbirds, and the sound of rain Words Written: (Wednesday) “The Broken Fiddle” 543; (Thursday) Chloe notes 537, “The Broken Fiddle” 803
Things that have made me happy recently: Ken bringing us breakfast in bed. A hummingbird in my sage plant. The sound of rain. Friends’ laughter. Good tea and dark chocolate. <>-<>-<> If the world allowed it, I would go on my natural rhythmic schedule, which would involve me staying up until dawn and then sleeping during the light (and often heat) of the day. But the world doesn’t allow it, and I’ve had to get up early (for me, at least) several days this week. Yesterday I had a hair appt, and now I’m a deep, rich burgundy. It’s not quite as vibrant as I’d like, but I think the shade suits me. In the afternoon I had a much-needed chiropractic appt. The rest of the day was taken up with work, house stuff, and writing. This morning I had to get up for a work conference call. I also had a long talk with Teresa about our next book (to be started in a couple of weeks). Ditto with the work and house stuff and writing. Tonight was the local SCA group’s Shire business meeting, the first I’ve attended in months (when I was working, I didn’t get home until after it started). It was great to see everyone, but it was also hard. I miss it so much. I want to be involved. I want to be costuming and brewing and doing herbal stuff and… Sigh. I did offer to do a couple of small things for Black Oak Lodge in March, because it’s an event very near and dear to my heart. (I’ll be assembling site favors, which amounts to stringing small cow bells on ribbon; the theme this year is Tain Bo Cualigne—essentially, an Irish cattle raid. Both the bells and the ribbon have already been procured; I’ll just be assembling while watching TV or whatnot. I’m also putting together a quiz or scavenger hunt of some sort.) Ken and I will be heading out for the next two weeks—he has some work to do, and I get to go with him! I’m going to be doing a novel dare of sorts, and seeing how much I can do on a solo Black Lace project (working title: Angelika) as well as a few short stories for upcoming anthologies. I’m looking forward to it. But now it’s getting late and I have to be up early tomorrow, too. Ken’s dad is helping out someone who’s renovating a Victorian hotel/spa, and we (along with the usual suspects of Morgana and Brian) are going to check it out—apparently the place is crammed full of stuff, most of which will be sold off soon. It’s in Lake Elsinore, about two hours away, so it’ll take up a good portion of the day. So I’m off to bed, to sleep and perchance to dream. G’night, pets. ---
