I sat there listening to him talk about the merits of the legislation and how important it was for the state of California, and I thought, "Holy Sweet Moses, the Terminator is going to be our President by 2008." I mentioned this to a friend, who pointed out to me that this wasn't going to happen, since the office of President is the only elected office that requires that you be born in the United States. Naturalized citizen? Tough cookies. You have to be born here. Interestingly enough, about a week later I saw a PBS special talking about this very subject. Apparently the Founding Fathers were worried about foreign powers meddling or infiltrating American politics, hence the restriction. I don't know...if an Austrian spy is slick enough to get elected President, maybe he deserves it. Anyway, I don't know if it requires a Constitutional amendment, but I still wouldn't be surprised to see him run in 2008. If he can defeat a predatory alien with his bare hands, he'll find a way to repeal that particular provision by then. Read/Post Comments (7) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
