This morning on C-Span was a story about a PETA representative writing a letter to Yassir Arafat regarding this incident.

Jan. 26, 2003 -- Suspected Palestinian militants blew up a donkey rigged with explosives on Sunday next to an Israeli commuter bus near Jerusalem, slightly damaging the bus, the army and witnesses said.

I cannot find the story that talks about the letter, so when I do I'll post a link. But C-Span said that the letter was essentially a plea for Arafat to leave the innocent animals out of the conflict. (But hey, Arafat doesn't have any control over the suicide bombers anyway, does he? Wink, wink.)

Someone in the story responded with something along the lines of, "Why isn't she writing a letter to Arafat asking his people to stop blowing up humans?"

To which she responded something like, "I don't concern myself in the wars of men."

Um, guess what? You're already concerning yourself in "the wars of men". You're just doing so on behalf of a donkey, instead of innocent people.

In case you can't tell, I completely agree with this woman's stance. In fact, I may write a letter myself:

Dear Mr. Arafat,

Earlier this month a donkey was blown up by suspected Palestinian militants. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do, but if you can, please, for the love of Allah, try to tell your militants to focus their munitions on Jewish men, women, and children and keep the animals out of it.

Sincerely yours,
An Animal Lover
