Flash forward to the present, as people travel to Iraq as volunteers to act as human shields. Earlier this month, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz said foreign volunteers were welcome to come to Iraq and serve as "civil defenders" around civilian facilities in the event of a US-led assault on the country. "They should come and set themselves up around places that we need to survive, to aid civil defence," Aziz said. What a nice way to protest the war, don't you think?
