A Honkless Afternoon

Yesterday, Saturday afternoon, I was driving to the bookstore when I saw a small knot of people standing on the corner of Greenville and Lovers Lane here in Dallas. I'd say there were about 8-10 people, holding signs saying, "Kerry for President" and "Honk for Kerry".

I passed this intersection twice that day. The first time, I didn't hear any honking, even though this is a fairly busy intersection, and there were perhaps 20 or more cars going in either direction. On the way back, I heard one honk.

To a certain extent, I can admire the effort and enthusiasm to stand all Saturday afternoon on a lonely streetcorner in Dallas, Texas. But to be quite honest, it looked pretty pitiful. It was a handful of people in an area with very little support, and if anything it probably hurt Kerry in the minds of any undecided voters driving by.
