After reiterating his goals for his second term, Bush said:

Reaching these goals will require the broad support of Americans so today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent: to make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust. A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to the whole nation. We have one country, one Constitution and one future that binds us. And when we come together and work together, there is no limit to the greatness of America.

Yet another call for unity. After reading some more of the "How could my fellow morons re-elect this guy?" reaction on the left side of the blogosphere, I'm still heavily doubting that the call will be heeded.

As I said before, I think one of the best side-effects of a Kerry election would have been at least some sense of unity...dunno. Maybe I'm wrong and the bile would have begun to spew wholesale from conservatives.

It's sad that we really do have an external enemy, both physically and ideologically, and that we can't find enough common ground, as both presidential candidates have expressed today, to keep our focus on them, rather than accentuating the differences between our increasingly polarized citizenry.
