If true, this is good news:

Attorney General John Ashcroft is likely to leave his post before the start of President Bush's second term, senior aides said Thursday.

He was an ultra-religious, polarizing figure in the Administration. Damn near anybody Bush selects will be better. He'd have to appoint Falwell to actually do worse.

I've heard people kicking around Guliani's name for AG. He'd get a lightning quick confirmation, and I think most people would be happy with him in that position.

We can hope.
