Thinking as a Hobby

So yesterday evening I get a phone call:

Caller: Hello, sir, I'm calling for a Derek James.

Me: That's me.

Caller: Sir, I hope we have your support for Candy Marcum in the upcoming city council election. Candy has been a strong community leader and needs your support. Can we count on you for a vote?

Me: I don't know. I don't know much about her. Who is she running against?

Caller: All right then, we do hope we have your support. Thank you and have a good day.

Huh? The guy ignores my question and hangs up. He didn't want to talk, just meet his quota, and the fact that he wouldn't engage me in a simple discussion of the election doesn't make me want to vote for Candy.
