Lots of people are now attributing the increase in number and intensity of hurricanes to global warming. Well, this should be a pretty easy thing to observe in the geological record no? When we only look at the last hundred years, we're looking at a pretty narrow window in time. I've poked around a bit, but can't find any information on prehistorical hurricane activity. If warmer global temperatures contribute to more and larger storms, wouldn't it make sense to look at geological periods that are as warm or much warmer than now and look for evidence of increased hurricane activity?
