It basically followed the stories of people who spoke differently languages in different geographic regions, tied by a loose thread of common fate. If there was a message about miscommunication, I missed it (which would be ironic, wouldn't it?).
Most of the plot complications are brought about not by miscommunication, but by the sheer stupidity of the characters, or by quirks of fate. And oh how the misery is piled on. One shitty thing after another happens, almost to the point of the absurd. It was well-directed and acted...I'll give it that. But other than "let's watch a bunch of shitty stuff happen multiculturally", there wasn't much there, and the end felt slight and petered out.
