THE IOWA CAUCUS. From our Des Moines Iowa Election Headquarters here is Connie Chung. CC: Good evenning. It's 7:59 central time here in Iowa and with 32% of the vote counted, these are hard numbers, here's what it looks like: CC: John Kerry is in a commanding lead with 37% John Edwards is nipping at his heels with 33% a distant third is Howard Dean with 19% Gephardt with 11% and Dennis Kucinich with 1%. CC: These are early numbers and we can't stress this enough, these numbers can change, it's early. But still a commanding lead for John Kerry who has come out of nowhere. CC:Joining me now is Bill Pullman who played the President in "Independence Day". What do you make of this Bill? BP: It's a real surprise Connie.I thought Kucinich would show a lot better. CC: Uhm hum. What about Joe Leiberman? BP: Well Connie... uhh... he's moved on to New Hampshire. I guess there aren't a lot of Jews in Iowa. CC: We'll be back as developments warrant.See you later.
