Yes it will since this documentary was co-produced by HBO/Cinemax and the BBC, among others. So it will be televised if you pay. Here’s the deal: these documentarians decided to do an intimate film on the inner workings of the Chavez presidential machine in Venezuela just as a well moneyed (and American supported) coup was about to take place. Using privately owned media outlets, a consortium of wealthy Venezuelans decided that President Chavez’s plans to redistribute the wealth of the country to all (including the poor) was insane (and they seriously try to paint a picture of an insane Castro-like dictator.) It worked and they took over. For a day and half. Then another coup was launched by the military to put Chavez back in power. It worked. And they arrested the leaders who took over for one and half days, one and half days earlier. All of this is captured by the film crew who (amazingly) had access to the Presidential palace during all of these events. This documentary is slanted to show Chavez as a true man of the people and to ignore his questionable policies and leanings in other areas. But the story of a democratically elected President deposed in an American supported coup by wealthy media and land owners who will do anything to stop a redistribution of their wealth is true and actual. And that story is compelling, I just wish the filmmakers would have done less painting and more factual reporting. Also, I can’t help but wonder what would happen to an American President who proposed the same thing here? Well I know one thing. AOL Time Warner HBO/Cinemax would surely finance a documentary that showed that President to be a real hero of the people just like they did here. I have to go, I hear pigs flying outside.
