A SOVEREIGN IRAQ!
From Baghdad, Iraq, here is Kelly Bright.
KB: Good morning, in an amazingly fast turn of events, Iraq is now a sovereign nation. The turn over of Iraq to the new Iraqi Provisional government happened moments ago in the heavily fortified green zone in Baghdad in a private ceremony. Iraq’s new president signed and exchanged documents with U. S. Ambassador Paul Bremer, who will be leaving the country in a matter of hours.
About an hour ago the rumors were circulating that the handover would be moved up from Wednesday to today. Minutes later news came that the handover would be imminent, and moments ago that a Sovereign Iraq is now a reality. The President will name his cabinet in a few days.
There is much confusion now as many unanswered questions have cropped up, like who is in charge of the country and what the hell do we do now? No answers are forthcoming and everyone is terrified.
The new Iraqi President said he needed the extra days to be up and running on July 1st. Many are saying this foils terrorist plans to launch major attacks on Wednesday.
