Your host: from our New York World News Headquarters in New York, Connie Chung. CC: Hello, I’m Connie Chung. We will get to our one on one interview with the latest Presidential candidate, Leonard Peltier, in a few moments. But first an update on the latest Terror warning. There is no evidence of the terror plot against the financial institutions that Homeland Security head John Ashcroft warned of Sunday. The information he classed as “new” and “very different” is, according to Intelligent Officials, four years old. The same officials said that even though it was four years old it’s still important and relevant. A senior government official said that it is possible, but not confirmed, that the old info may have been updated in the last year. We will stay on the story and bring you any breaking news as the War on Terror continues. Now to today’s “1on1”. Over the weekend “Crazy Ralph” Nader lost an opportunity to be on the California ballot when the ultra left Peace and Freedom Party passed Nader by for Silly Thinking’s own Leonard Peltier, the imprisoned Native American Rights Advocate and former announcer on The Marlon Brando Show. Leonard joins me now. Good afternoon Mister Peltier. LP: Hi Connie, nice to see you again. CC: First Leonard, we want to congratulate you on your nomination for President, and express our sadness over the death of Marlon Brando. LP: Yes, it has been difficult. I miss Marlon, the show was great fun. I miss it and him. CC: What have you been doing since Marlon Brando went off the air? LP: Well, of course, I’m still in prison, but we have been working on a retrospective on the program that was to air in September. But now that I’m a candidate for President the program will have to air after the election in November due to the equal time law. CC: Interesting. LP: Yes. CC: Did you know that you were being considered for a Presidential run? LP: No. I was surprised, and I thank the good folks at the Peace and Freedom Party for thinking of me. CC: Will you participate in any Presidential debates? LP: No. Two things stand in my way. One, the Democrats and Republicans will not allow independents to debate, and I’m in prison. CC: Interesting. LP: I guess. CC: Where do you stand on the war and other issues that face this country. LP: I’m against the war and think we should leave Iraq. If I’m elected President, I will work to remove the troops within 45 days. We need to share the wealth in this country and stop rewarding the richest 2 per cent of the population, so I also endorse massive tax changes to give poor people the chance to stand tall. CC: Interesting. LP: Do you ever say anything else? Are you listening? CC: Interesting. Who will be your running mate? LP: I haven’t chosen one yet. CC: Interesting. Sound like a good ticket. Well, thank you Leonard Peltier, for joining us today, and we’ll be looking for your special in November called “Peltier on Brando”, right here on ST. LP: Thanks for having me Connie. CC: Yes, well join us as news breaks anytime. This is ST News. Be seeing you. ST News IS! Read/Post Comments (2) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
