This is BREAKING NEWS From ST! Here, from the National Mall in Washington D.C. is Chief ST News Anchor and Senior meteorologist, Connie Chung. CC: Now, as we go on the air a "pre Inauguration" event is happening saluting the U. S. Military, here in Washington. Good afternoon. Moments ago John Ashcroft, at a U.S. Justice Department Press Conference, has announced the United States first charges against the U.N. Oil For Food Program. The United States government is charging Samier Vincent, a nationalized American citizen, in bribing U.N. and Clinton and Bush officials in a scheme to manipulate the program for profits to him and Iraq under Hussein. The program was exploited by Iraq with dummy business men holding phony deeds to oil rights in the country and to resell the rights at inflated prices, making 3 to 9 million dollars on the U.N. program. The Justice Department charged Vincent who claims he was guilty on 4 charges and announced a plea deal where he is co operating with the Justice Department. This is thought to be the first of many charges against the program the United States will level against Koufi Annan and many others in the U.N. In another major story today, Condoleeza Rice’s confirmation hearing got under way and was thought to be a rubber stamp but turned contentious as Democrats peppered Doctor Rice with criticisms before the small electric shocks installed in their chairs were activated by Republicans who then blindly praised Dr. Rice. Senator Barbara Boxer, a Democrat from California, asked Dr. Rice about her “mushroom cloud” remark when Rice claimed Sadaam Hussein would use nuclear weapons against the Unites States if we didn’t start the war against him. Dr. Rice answered saying it was not in her nature to lie and was applauded by Republicans in the hall for the hearings today. The afternoon session begins shortly and we will be back with more on that as events warrant. Also stay with us Thursday, right here from the National Mall as we cover the second Bush Inauguration. See you later. ST Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
