Here, from STSpace Control at The Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is ST Chief Science Editor: Connie Chung.



CC: Good evening. With the shuttle’s return to earth now accomplished, even though the entire fleet was grounded shortly after lift off due to technical problems that jeopardized the astronauts that had just taken off, we thought we would look at Space: The Final Frontier. And see where we are, where we have been and where we may go.
First: The space shuttle is a huge machine with aged technology that dates back the 80’s. It services the International Space Station, although what they are doing for months hanging in space is a mystery.
Second: Astronomers have discovered two new planets in our solar system and are re-evaluating whether Pluto is indeed a planet at all.
Third: Saturn is sending off radio signals that we can now hear. What does it mean? Are Saturnian’s looking to communicate with us, humans, in space?
Here to discuss these complex issues is one of this countries first space explorers, William Shatner. Good morning Bill.


WS: Good… afternoon… Con… nie Chung how are… you?



CC: Fine. What about it Bill, when you explored the universe it was a different place wasn’t it?


WS: Connie…. Chung…. YES! It was… a very different… place……… You….. don’t know how…… different it was.



CC: Bill, is Saturn sending us radio waves in an effort to communicate with earth?


WS: K A H N!!!!!!!! It won’t work this… time…. KAHN!!!!



CC: Has the Space Shuttle seen it’s last orbit in space?


WS: That’s…. a good question Bones. I… don’t… know. A great lady can’t be retired. She must… do it herself. She must fight on and do it in her own… way.
