A Bit of Randomness

Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats. --Diane Arbus

...And What the Doctor Said...

So the pediatrician calls me back. And finds out what we did and asks my opinion on it. I tell her that (in retrospect) I think 6 weeks is waaay too young to try the "cry it out" approach. She agrees with me. We then go on to have a chat about how different our culture is from most of the rest of the world and how anywhere else, babies aren't expected to be on their own as much as here; how hard the transition from inside a warm, soothing environment to the cold, harsh world; how at this age they can't understand the lesson of "crying it out".

At D-'s 2 month checkup in two weeks, Dr. S and I are going to talk more about how I can get more (and better) sleep for when I go back to work. But in the meantime, I'm trying slightly different methods to encourage D- to sleep on her own. I moved her bassinet closer to my bed and lower down (so I can see her better and she can see some of the pictures on the wall better) and brought the CD into our room. I've put her down right after eating and while she's a bit drowsy (but both time she woke up and stayed up for about 10 minutes). So far, she's fallen asleep twice in her bassinet. She slept half the night in in last night (early this morning?) and is currently taking her nap in it.

I think this "easy" transition will work out better for us. Maybe not for my next one but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
