A Bit of Randomness

Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats. --Diane Arbus

So Tired

The week before I came back to work, D- slept through the night four different times. And by through the night I mean for a 7 hour span. Whoo hoo! We thought we were very lucky.

And then the weekend before I came back was chaos. So busy. So much running around. And the schedule that D- was getting on was shot all to hell. Add in the fact that she and I both caught a cold and E- was home full time with her (and therefore they were just learning each other's idiosyncracies) and none of us have gotten much sleep since then.

But last night was really bad. When I got home, D- ate for what felt like hours (fairly typical in breastfed babies that have the bottle introduced. They'll eat only minimally during the day and then cluster feed at night). She fell asleep around 11:00 and I figured she might be getting back onto her routine. Hoped, really. But no dice.

She woke up shortly after that and cried for the next 3 1/2 hours - part of the time screaming, even. Nothing we did worked. We both tried rocking her, burping her, gas relief drops, singing to her, putting in her swing, feeding her... nothing worked. Tears were streaming down her face half the time and E- and I were starting to panic.

We finally called the pediatrician's office. And wouldn't you know it - between my call and his return call, she quieted down and fell asleep. And stayed asleep for a change. We have no idea what was wrong or what finally made it better. The closest we can guess is that my dinner last night (that didn't agree with me at all) had a similar and much, much worse effect on her. And because her reaction was soooo severe, I don't even want to try the meal again to test it (even though it's one of my favorites).

Oy.

But she was sleeping peacefully when I left. Hopefully, E- can get some sleep today and maybe I can tonight. Cause 2 hours just ain't enough, ya know???
