How to Promote Poetry

I have been reading a lot about the ends to which authors must go (or dare go) in order to promote their work. An approach one author finds an acceptible way to grab readers, others might consider too aggressive. I was thinking about this topic when I read Dr. Z's Sports Illustrated column chronicling locker room fights and came upon the following tale involving the football player Big John Matuszak:

...the Tooz, the 6-8, 280-pound defensive end who had once been the first pick in the entire 1973 draft.

One of his teammates ... said that he once got into a jam with Matuszak on a flight back from a Jets game.

"He was high on something or other, and he kept pestering me to read some poetry he had written. I wanted to sleep. Next thing I knew he was choking me."

Who reads poetry by a 6'8", 280 pound defensive lineman? Anyone he wants.
