Here in the northeast we are facing a weekend during which temperatures are forecast to plunge to zero. There's nothing like a cup of hot chocolate on days like that and so it is appropriate that Mary has written an essay for Buried Under Books entitled "Chocolate, the Ageless Necessity of Life". Included are some Nineteenth century recipes for hot chocolate and some eighteenth century advice about chocolate's medicinal value.
