2004-11-11 4:10 AM Local Music (with mp3s) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (5) Music is such a big part of my life here it almost gets taken for granted--I am surrounded by incredibly talented people. So here's some of their music--and I'll try to post more of it here and there, by the by... If you have a chance, give some of it a listen.
Band: American Sound Syndicate [link] (and yes, I do have an "I ♥ A.S.S." t-shirt): Song: Better in Blue
Notes: original song, genre: alternarockabilly (just listen)an album track I love the crackily record player hiss they put in the beginning. Everyone in this band is terribly sexy, you should visit the website. (Malissa Goff is married to Brian Porterfield; they are easily the most musically talented couple I know who aren't playing in a band together.) Also, Adrian and I get to bemoan the loss of Warner Bros. Stores together. Band: The Argument [link]: Notes: original song, genre: acoustic pop I used to get to hear the Argument a lot more than I do now. This was one of the last songs of their's I got hooked by... Oh, and when they play live they do a fantastic cover of the Jackson Five... Band: Cheap Truckers Speed: Song: Beautiful Girl
Notes: original song, genre: rockabilly bluegrassan album track The Morgantown bard himself. While Cheap Truckers Speed isn't really around anymore Brian Porterfield's other bands often cover their songs...some of the best lyrics. I love it when I can get Sean to play this one for me, on the rare occasions he breaks out the guitar... Band: Grundeldrag: Song: Heartbreaker
Notes: covering Pat Benatar, genre: rocklive at the bar, broadcast by local radio Gina and Danielle are some of the gutsiest babes I know. They kick ass...er, butt, at both guitar and vocals in this band. And with Todd on bass and Sammy playing drums, there's just a lot of fun here. (They were playing live on U92, which is why Gina tries to censor herself a little too late.) Band: Hogblast: Song: The Golem
Notes: original song, genre: rocklive at the bar, broadcast by local radio This is my favorite Hogblast song, which is funny because it's one where Sean has to work the hardest (but I think it's one of his favorites too). You won't be able to see the cymbal grabs or the drum-stick blurs that happen in this song, but the tempo changes and the extreme drumwork should still be apparent. (Todd on bass, Sammy on guitar and vocals.) Also, come on, it's about a golem. Or a grocery store. More music bits at a later date. Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
