I met Lois Lane

So when you were growing up, what super-hero did you want to be? I know for a lot of guys it was Superman or Batman (now it would most likely be Spider Man), and for a lot of girls it was Wonder Woman. I have so many friends with great stories about running around the house in Wonder Woman underoos...

Now there are several comic-story females I've identified with. Jean Grey, especially with the Phoenix power, is a long-time favorite of mine. Rogue is a very close second (and may have been first if I hadn't so disliked the idea of never being able to touch anyone). Invisible Woman before that, Sue Richards is such a sweet and kind badass...

But during those years when most little girls wanted to be Wonder Woman, ie. Linda Carter, I wanted to be Lois Lane.

A very attractive (much more attractive in person than she's shown on tv, and isn't that odd?) woman comes to our store at the Pittsburgh Comicon on Friday. Eric and I are talking and we stop to say hi, and how are you, and can we help you with anything...when I realize the woman we're talking to is Margot Kidder.

It takes a moment. She's looking for a Superman for her grandson. We mostly have collectibles, which isn't what she needs (he's four). We have some plushies, but no Superman. She politely goes on her way.

I turn to Eric. "You realize who that was, right?"

"No," he replies. (Yep, sarcasm, are we surprised?) "No, I didn't notice I had Lois Lane in my store. And she was trying to buy Superman."

And I know it's not about her, which I realize may be sad, it's about this character I knew when growing up. (I know very little about Margot Kidder herself.) But she's the person who made this character so vivid, and so memorable. So maybe it is about her, and there's nothing sad about it after all. Regardless, it was this awesome little fangirl moment: I met Lois Lane!
