Tip of the Iceburg

You always say, bring you street-life, bring you real-life, that one man's desperate and mundane existance is another man's... techni-color. [[strange days]]

(that's happy new year's in japanese)

besides the little problem of being sick, the new year's festivities went off pretty well. the plan was to have a potluck dinner here, then head over to Rich's for the countdown and other festivities. i started off the day sort of feeling sick, so i slept in a bit. when i managed to get up, there was tons of stuff to do to get the place ready for party-madness... last minute cleaning, food shopping, setting up decorations and such. also, we were slated to make some kind of vegitarian dish and a salad.

i did some cleaning, then went out with brian to shop for potluck foods. i brought stuff up and started cooking - brian came up after parking the car... 45 minutes later. can i say parking in this town sucks?

anyway, cook cook clean clean decorate and voila!

rich showed up with the chicken at about 6:30-ish. aaron and rachael came by soon after with the apetizer - a hot and yummy cheesy artichoke dish with tons of bread for dipping. mark and nancy came bearing deserts... mike arrived with bread and cheese. jason and sheryl came by with beef brisket and key lime pie respectively. dyl brought twice baked potatos. rich had to take off to get his own party started and andrew showed up last with an orange veggie in garlic sauce. sadly i was already full of foody goodness and did not have any...

converstation ranged from tv to politics, salad dressing to wine openers. it was really awesome. reminded me how much i love having dinner parties. reminded me how good it is to be surrounded by good friends.

after dinner and desert, we all left here at about 10:45-ish and headed off to rich's place for the countdown. more drinks, more people. aj, melissa, holly, melissa, mike, tiffany, pete, dave, jaan and a bunch of other folk were hanging around, drinking various and sundry beverages, talking, and generally ringing in the new year right and proper...

being sort of sick, i managed to get through the (second) party only drinking a redbull, a glass of champainge, and two tequila poppers. :)

it was good times tho. all around. i feel very lucky to be around such good people.

and to all of you that i couldn't be with ... *superhappyhugs* hope you had a good night and that the new year brings you happiness.
