Tip of the Iceburg

You always say, bring you street-life, bring you real-life, that one man's desperate and mundane existance is another man's... techni-color. [[strange days]]

phish and hipping trippies

Why is it that I continually let a week or more worth of stuff to sit around before i write about it?

Someday I will get better at this.

Anyway. This was a good week to ignore my little computer and let it all hang out - Tuesday, I left work early and began my mini-tour... I flew down to san diego with j and b to see show two of Phish Summer 2003. Seriously - this is my year of Phish. I'm such a geek tho. I write down setlists and everything.

After a short flight from Oakland to San Diego and a car rental - we headed out to Chula Vista (Coors Amphitheater) for the show. We met up with d, m, j, and some miscellaneous extra-ticket holders (basically the LA tour group...) hung in the parking lot and watched the silly phans do pre-show things like drink beer and play frisbee. After a bit, we headed into the show. Nice theater - kind of spread out though, by the 200 section you could barely get a good view of the stage... Our seats weren't too shabby tho - B row in the 200s. The music was pretty good - highlights: My Sweet One, Limb by Limb, and Tweezer Reprise. I thought the general *flow* of the show was kind of strange (lots of good songs sort of thrown together - few of them connected via 'jam') - but maybe its par for the so-cal shows.

Post-show consisted of falling asleep in the car and getting lost in the Chula Vista/San Diego area. I have disjoint memories of car doors opening and closing and drive through taco ordering. Motel 6 is the such an icky place - I mean, okay, you get what you pay for and everything - but jeez. First, they only had one room left, second it was a smoking room... The whole place was saturated in stale cigarette smoke... *sigh*

Wednesday morning was spent bumming around - b and I ate breakfast on this little place off the beach. Cute little diner joint a stone's throw from the beach and the overcast southern california sky. By the time we were finished, it was time to head back to the airport and catch show2 at Shoreline...

Show2 - j, b and I piled into the car and jaunted off to Mountain View from Oakland. Again, spent some time in the parking lot... I had my first parkinglot burrito. It was filled with jambalaya... mmm... yummy mexican/nawlin's treat. Show2 R O C K E D my socks off. Like nothing else - really really - the show was fantabuuuulous. I got my Mike's Song -> Hydrogen -> Weekapag Groove. I got a YEM, a Chalkdust, a Simple, a Boogie On... There was not a disappointing moment in the whole damned show. Oh, and the encore was a rad rendition of Loving Cup - I think that's one of my favorite covers.

A little stop at In n' Out on the way home asuaged the hunger... and I sacked out with a full belly.

stuff: (work work pretending to work)

Show3 - I headed down with I, we stopped and had a drink and waited for this girl K (works in our building, phish phan). Ended up having a bit of parkinglot time. No burritos today. I was practicing poi, friends were chilling, we headed into the show a bit on the later side. Got to our seats at the end of Spices and just in time for Waves. Show itself was pretty good. Not as good as the night before. We did get some good stuff.. My new favorite tune is Free and it was righteous to hear 2001 and Down with the Disease...

Spent sections of the evening taking care of tripping hippies. They're so cute. :)

All in all - good week... Excellent music, good friends and more excellent music.
