Late-night nearly-anarchist thought... Politics is the application of coercion{punishment, property-taking, violence} to social ends. Note that the set above is parallel to the set of life, liberty, pursuit of happiness (property). Roughly in reverse order. And that this is bad pseudo-math. If these are inalienable rights, what does it mean to alienate them form a person? What kind of standard has to be met? Note also, query: Taxation is a form of property-taking. What does this mean? Is consent of the governed enough? It's in the company of punishment and violence, can we just vote for those arbitrarily, too? Answers on a postcard, as they say... |
