Two Kittens, Two Anecdotes

Had a frightening kitten moment the other day. While I was cleaning the bathroom, both kittens were *very* interested in what I was doing, which was adorable and very annoying at the same time. I had sprinkled the damp floor with Comet, and sure enough Marzi comes in and walks right through it. Argh! I tried to be all calm while I reached for her, but she's skittish and immediately picked up on my alarm and bolted. I chased her through the living room, but she darted around me and started for the kitchen. Ack! We have an old, 1940's stove and she sometimes gets behind it where I just can't get to her, and if she made it there before I caught her I knew she'd lick all the blue poison off her feet and get very very sick (or worse). I hollered to Tim, "Catch her, quick!" as the orange blur raced towards him. Tim, ever the action hero, spun around in his office chair and caught the cat -- by her tail.

Oh, well, at least he caught her.

I had him hold her while I took a damp paper towel and wiped off her wiggling feet. The paper towel was blue when I was finished. Sigh. Stupid cat.

Now a story about Zanzi.

Both cats follow me around, but while Marzi is beginning to realize there's life outside of Mommy, Zanzi still follows me around with a lovesick look on his little face. It's really quite adorable and touching when he does this, and Tim and I still comment on it. Anyway, he was reclining in my arms last night while I sat on the couch, stretched out on his back so his little paws were dangling over my side. Tim, sitting next to me, leaned over to kiss me, and was immediately repelled by the little white paws. He moved the paws a bit and tried again, and sure enough those little white paws darted back to push against his chest. We looked down at the kitten, who had a possessive, somewhat jealous look on his little face. Heh! Zanzi often dominates Marzi, to let her know who is top cat around here, but this is the first time he's challenged Tim.

My money is on Tim.
