Carrots

Last night, I was making myself a nummy salad out of the fresh organic veggies that we get every other week. I scraped the outsides of the "rainbow carrots" (yellow, purple AND orange) into the rubbish, then proceeded to peel them into my salad. I turned around when I heard a rummagaing behind me.

Marzi, our ginger-colored cat, had her head buried in the trash can. She pulled her head out with a long carrot peel clenched between her teeth. She got it to the ground and gobbled it down. Then she went back for more.

This must be why she's so thin while Zanzi is so fat; Marzipan is a vegetarian.

I fed her a few more peelings, which she stood up on her hind legs and gobbled as if they were kitty treats (she has never done this for kitty treats, though Zanzi does). I finally ripped up some lettuce, topped it with some carrot peels and set it on the floor for her. She tucked in as if I'd just opened her favorite wet food for her.

I guess it's better than our old cat, Grey Lady, who would eat Doritos with you.

Today an agent reminded me that she was interested in seeing my novel when it's finished. A kind of "hurry up and finish already!" reminder.

Ack!

Honestly, I really needed that kick in the ass. I was going to finish by the end of December. Didn't. Knew better than to think I'd be done by the end of January because of a couple of short story deadlines I had. So, I wanted to be done by the end of February.

Until today, I wasn't sure I'd make it. I'm two-thirds of the way through. Today I got another 2000 words towards the end. Whoot!

But the best part is that I actually figured some stuff out that I was stuck on. That kick in the ass just pushed me past it, gave me that "stop editing before you write and just write it" attitude which can, sometimes, help solve those thorny plotting problems.

No, scratch that. The best part is that I'm excited about writing my novel again. There are scenes coming up that I can barely wait to write! Yay!

I might just have this drafted by the end of February yet. I'm hoping that in a month I'll have it polished enough to send out.

Yay!
