2006-06-18 10:56 PM Water in the summertime Previous Entry :: Next Entry Read/Post Comments (0) I got so much stuff done on Saturday this weekend that when I woke up on Sunday, I thought it must be Monday already. Therefore, after a bit of angst about it, I decided to not worry about what I accomplished today and just have fun.
It was glorious. My dreams last night were all set at this Italian villa, a U-shaped building with marble floors and open architecture and a fresh, inviting swimming pool in the middle. My mother had purchased it, and it was large enough for everyone in the family to move into different wings of it and not be too close for comfort. Tim and I hosted writer's workshops there, but mostly we swam and lounged. So, today, I decided I must go swimming. The Dimond Park swimming pool is a far cry from the above-mentioned dream pool, but it was full of water and under a sunny sky. Best of all, the deep end was relatively sparsely populated (kids had to pass a swimming test and get a wristband to swim there) so we weren't getting splashed too much or bumped into. Mostly, I tread water, though I did a few short laps. There were a few guys messing around erratically enough that I couldn't do many, though. I'm a good swimmer -- most of the summers of my childhood I spent all day every day at the YMCA outdoor pool -- and it felt good to use those muscles again. I love the other-worldliness of the water -- some of the first stories I ever made up were set in the underwater worlds that I would discover in the various pools of my childhood. I wasn't so creative today, but it was good to know that I can still tread water for over a half an hour fairly easily. I dove a bit, too, getting out and slicing into the water again and again, each time pestering Tim for a rating on how little I splashed. The sun was warm, my love was nearby, the water was warm and lovely. A perfect summer day. Just for my records, here's a list of the things I got done on Saturday. Not nearly as fun as today, but very satisfying in that sense of accomplishment way:
I just wish tomorrow wasn't Monday. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
