Something I Like

We were watching The Colbert Report last night, which we sometimes do - if we are very foolish and stay up that late. The guest was a paleontologist, and since I am a colossal nerd, I had to stay up for it.

Stev(ph?)en Colbert* asked him to explain evolution in 30 seconds or less and without blinking, he responded:

"Sex and time."

This is still making me happy. But again, I am a nerd, so I realize this may not make you feel as warm and fuzzy inside as it does me.

*I really don't feel like taking the time to look up how he spells it so it will have to remain a mystery for now. You know who I mean, anyway. He doesn't need me to advertise for him.

Some other things that are making me happy today:

1) There are cookies at the grocery store downstairs and somebody will get to eat them and it will probably make that person smile. You can't frown and eat a cookie. Even though I am resisting the urge to go buy some and smile repeatedly until the box is empty, it makes me happy knowing that the cookies are there - box after box of potential happiness. The world can’t be a bad place when it has such a thing in it.

2) I found an old picture of somebody I know and it’s really funny looking. But don’t worry – it’s not you. If it was, I’d tell you.

3) I get to walk around and be a hippie tomorrow. I’ve mostly outgrown it, but it’s still fun sometimes to put on a crinkly skirt and some patchouli, strap on a baby and hit the drum circle.

4) The cheesy variety show that The Man and I were in was on the local cable access channel the other night and even though I hated the way I looked (the camera added more like 50 pounds and on top of that I kept looking down, which made me look like I was singing with my eyes closed and I hate people who sing with their eyes closed - even The Man made fun of me for looking so “sincere”, which admit I totally deserved), I thought we sounded really good. So I guess that’s OK. I mean, so what if I had to close my eyes to be able to tolerate it? It’s all about the music, man.

5) My brother- and sister-in-law recorded the Rush 30th anniversary concert in HD. This is a happy thing because a) I get to go watch it on their giant ass television (and piss off somebody else’s neighbors for a change); b) I never would have pegged them as people who could appreciate Rush so suddenly they are way cooler than I’d ever imagined.
