2006-04-01 12:50 PM April Fool's Well, today is April Fool's Day, and it just doesn't have the same punch for me as when the kids were home.
April Fool's always leveled the playing field with harmless tricks - giggles behind cupped hands, while wearing masks of wide-eyed innocence. And that was me - you shoulda seen the children. My favorite and most clever trick happened about six years ago. David was a sophomore in high school and we had a delightful AFS student from Brazil living with us. His name was Arthur, and April Fool's iced it for him - convinced him we were nuts. April Fool's happened to fall on the same Sunday that we were scheduled to change the clocks for Daylight Saving Time. The night before, Saturday, I waited until everyone was sound asleep - a tough task with two teenagers in the house. I sneaked around and turned back all the clocks one hour - all the watches I could find, too. The next morning as I prepared breakfast for my crew, I gleefully recruited everyone to help me move the clocks ahead one hour. Essentially, I caused time to stand still - unbeknownst to them. No one caught the trick. After all, what's time to teenagers? And my husband was only mildly confused by the time discrepancy of sporting she wanted to watch on TV. I believe he missed half a game of something. Weep, weep. Slowly, but surely, little glitches surfaced throughout the day regarding the time. I can't remember who busted me, but it was a wonderful trick that entertained us a long while as everyone put the pieces together. Do any of you have a favorite April Fool's story? I could use some good ideas. Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
