2006-05-21 10:15 AM Good Friends, Part Two Generally, professed love is a private issue between people, unless, of course, you are Tom Cruise jumping on couches on Oprah… but last night Brian and I had the most remarkable experience, because someone expressed affection for us with utmost generosity and tenderness. It’s been a long time since I received a love letter, but I got one last night from a man other than my husband. Ordinarily this wouldn’t set too well in a marriage, but Brian was just fine with it, because the letter was actually addressed to both of us. I don’t know how to post links, but if you go to my journal page you’ll see links I like to visit. Among them you can click on 'Hazel’s Life' and find the most wonderful love letter a person could receive. Last night Brian shared some thoughts regarding his day with Hazel aka Scott: “Four hours on a golf course are the most honest hours you’ll ever spend with another person. Insecurities, integrity, competitiveness – all come into play. Whiners surface, as well as cheaters. Friendships can be made or lost on a golf course. Scott and I became friends about 10 years ago and will always remain solid. We’ve never had a bad 19th hole.” So there you have it. Two splendid men professing affection for each other, but before this becomes a “Brokeback” joke, Teresa, Scott’s wife, completes our foursome off the course. Teresa personifies sweetness. Shortly after meeting, we were invited to their home for a 4th of July BBQ. Amidst a table brimming with delicious snacks and appetizers, I spotted a large bowl of M&Ms. Right then and there, I determined I had to get to know this woman better! This might sound like hyperbole, but I am a better person when I’m in her orbit. She brings out the best in people because she is the best. They both are. And Scott is a mighty fine chef. The four of us are grateful. In a lifetime, true friends, the best ever friends, the hard to meet friends – are a rare treasure. Actually, I’ve been blessed with many remarkable friends – and you all know who you are. Thank you, Scotty, we love you and Teresa, too. Now, all of you – phone or email a friend, or go find your spouse, your significant other, a child, a parent, a dog, a cat, or a bunny – whomever – and say, “Thank you, friend, I love you.” P.S. If you ever plan to be in the area, let me know. I’ll cook up a storm and make sure you meet Scott and Teresa. Read/Post Comments (10) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
