2013-06-22 11:41 AM A Retreat I have a crummy-crummy summer cold. As far as colds go, I guess it really isn't all that crummy. It's not one of those kinds of colds where boxes and boxes of Kleenex are required. It's a coughing cold. It's a rib-rattling type of cold.
My house is rented this weekend with two couples attending a local wedding. I usually vacate my property to visit friends or relatives, but decided to relocate to the upstairs apartment... create a little retreat for myself. I really like this apartment a lot. It's a great space with everything I could possibly need. It's cozy. It's odd because the renters don't know who's upstairs. I just always let guests know the apartments are occupied, but that there's an abundance of space & privacy. I've barely heard them come and go. I'm reading The River of Doubt by Candice Millard. It's a riveting account of Teddy Roosevelt's uncharted journey of the Amazon in 1912. The encyclopedic facts regarding the Amazon's people and flora and fauna are about as fascinating as anything I've ever read. Spellbinding! I highly recommend it. It's an easy read despite the white knuckle adventures. (TS, it's one you should add to your Kindle.) I've binged on the whole 10th season of Top Chef. I also stumbled upon what I guess is a sequel series to Upstairs Downstairs. We're about to enter WWII. I've enjoyed this extension quite a lot. BBC does such beautiful period filming. That's about it. It's been a good weekend to stay low and recover because the rest of the summer is going to be Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! Later!
