2015-01-25 11:44 AM TBT A lot of Facebook followers participate in TBT (Throw Back Thursday). Because every day is Saturday for me, I tend to post my throw backs at random intervals.
This entry is a handful of those TBT photos. Some are repeats for you, some not. It was fun to pull these together. Love. ***** This is a photo of my father and Uncle Richard with my grandparents. My father is wearing the gray shirt. My grandmother was the sweetest, most delicate flower. I remember lumbering along Ocean Avenue with grandma navigating a car that barely squeezed in the lines. The steering wheel was oceanic in size. We were the Good Ship Lollipop - well, except I so clearly remember the murmuring movements of my grandmother's lips, the dangling rosary beads laced in her fingers. I love petite memories like this. Oh, and this Grandma wasn't much of a kitchen wizard. In later years she stored photo albums in her oven. ***** My childhood home. I grew up on a sweet street. My parents built this home on a parcel of land that had once been the gardens of a larger estate. This photo doesn't do it justice - the property was magical. ***** Debby & me ***** Easter. I clearly adored my mother. ***** Sisters. When we were young, Debby and I swam on the Northport Yacht Club's swim team. This was no sissy swim team with a heated pool. We swam in choppy waters. Cold waters. Fingers squishing through herds of jelly fish. We never thought a whit about it. We were kids with other kids - and having a blast. Our team practiced in Northport Harbor, which was relatively sheltered. We were at a clear disadvantage when we competed with teams on the South Shore of Long Island. Whoa - racing through higher swells of even colder water. ***** High School Graduation ***** Rachel's Tea Parties. Out of view in this photo is the tiny coatrack with *dress up* clothes for the girls to wear for the tea party. Rachel's tea parties were such a hit we hosted several of them. ***** Rachel & Chase Halloween. This was our last home in Mission Hills, Kansas. It had been the home of my children's great-grandparents. They could well afford a more modern kitchen, but I was especially glad they kept the integrity of the original tiles - boobs on HGTV raze this type of vintage beauty. I also loved cooking on the Chambers gas stove that had a well for soups and a griddle that could also function as a broiler. This appliance was a marvel. I was none too thrilled with the dishwasher that had to be rolled and connected to the sink... yet, I look at this photo with a sentimental heart... my complaints were so simple then. Anyway, Chase and Rachel had just carved their pumpkins. Of note, I still have the witch decoration sitting atop the mobile dishwasher. ***** Cousin Katie & me with shaving cream pies. We were with the family in the Ozarks - late 70s? Boy howdy did we get in a lot of trouble that night. *laughing* ***** The following is a deconstructed collage of life in the mid-80s. Mid-1980s. The neighborhood kids hanging out. ***** Baby David in Stroller. I adore this photo of all the neighborhood children gathering around David's stroller. Absolutely precious. David was born in 1985. ***** Rachel & Tracy Roller-skating. Best friends doing what kids used to do for recreation. ***** Rachel & Tracy on bike. Again - kids having fun in the 80s. That's our home in the background. It was a stunning home. ***** Rachel & friends with wheelbarrow - love this! ***** Fireman David. I adore this photo of David standing stiffly at attention. He was a most unusual child. He had 3 imaginary friends - Blue, Chick, and Joe. ***** David & me circa 1993 ***** This was my most recent TBT photo, which I actually posted on a Thursday. I was dressed for a 60s party. Am I a nerd or what! Everyone else was dressed as cheerleaders - guys with their letter jackets - and here I was looking like June Cleaver about to attend a tea. This is actually a classic example of my inability to mainstream... and I'm so grateful for that inability. *laughter* Read/Post Comments (5) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
