my job means that i'm constantly wandering though strangers' homes. i see their bathrooms and bedrooms, their closets and cupboards. i see their attics and basements, their dust and dog hair. i see snapshots and shopping lists - i know what they've got and, often, what they want. i know if they've got kids, if they're gay, if they believe in god. i know what they read and where they eat. i'm there, i'm gone, on to the next crash course in a family history. the fullest house can be empty and the biggest home can be cozy. the newer the furniture, the worse the art. i'm not sure what i want, but i know what i don't want when i see it.
