2001-08-17 11:35 PM A Decision is Made |
All right. I've come to a decision. After many fits and starts, I have determined that I cannot write "Wicked Game" successfully as a comic book script. Every time I try, it's like driving nails into my face. The story just doesn't want to behave. It has taken on a life of its own. And it is very loudly telling me to leave it the hell alone, let it remain prose. So, like any good slave (mine being to my muse), I threw in the towel and said fine. It's gonna stay prose. But it will still be illustrated. Using Stardust by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess as a template, I am doing a layout for an illustrated story, as opposed to a comic book. I think it will still be considered a graphic novel (that term is tossed around a lot, and is as slippery to define as a greased Scotsman), even if it is not technically a comic book. This way, the words will still appear in more or less the same order as they look in my manuscript, but with illustrations by dear, sweet Lisa enhancing the story.
It feels nice to make a definitive decision. Check out the Fiction section of my website to see a nice review (sort of) from Brooke Burgess about my Flash-ized poem "Solipsist's Lament". Brooke is the writer and director of Broken Saints, the best online graphic novel I've ever seen. It was a real honor to receive praise from such a good writer and someone who has genuine Flash savvy. Off to bed now. The night draws long, and me peepers is tired.
