2003-05-02 1:15 PM No Sushi For You Mood: Enh Read/Post Comments (6) |
I was hoping to go have sushi for lunch with a coworker today, but her fiance (who just arrived here for good from England) wanted to have lunch with her instead. So no sushi for me today. Some people are so selfish, wanting to spend time with their loved ones instead of me. How dare they?
There was a sort-of cool blackout at work yesterday during lunchtime. Since my computer was off, I took a chair next to the window and read the stories in Alex Irvine's chapbook Rosetti Song. Then when I was done, I sat in the semi-darkness of my office and wrote a couple of poems: "To Get To You" and "unPerson". I'm going to let them sit for a while before sending them out, but I'm fairly happy with both of them. I had a nice (if short) conversation with my lady last night on the phone. I was so tired that by the end I was nearly asleep. But it's been a bad couple of weeks as far as sleep goes. The pressure of the end of the semester, along with stuff at my day job, is keeping me up at night. I was getting sleepy in the middle of Friends last night (shows you how tired I was), and I think I actually nodded off during the president's address. I hope I can get on a better sleep schedule soon. And speaking of my lady, only two weeks until I leave for Singapore! Woo! I've been thinking about what books to bring on the plane (since I'll have a lot of time on my hands), and if I get my review copies of Trampoline and Kalpa Imperial in time, I'll take those, along with Report to the Men's Club and Other Stories and The Mount, as part of the omnibus review of the Small Beer Press book line I'll be doing for GMR in June. (I already own Stranger Things Happen and Meet Me in the Moon Room, but I'll have to revisit them before writing the review.) I was thinking about trying to squeeze their chapbook series in there as well, but I already have enough on my plate for the review. If I don't get those review copies, however, I'll probably take Polyphony 2 from Wheatland Press, All the Names and Blindness by Jose Sarmago, and The Rainy Season by James P. Blaylock. I want to get as much reading done this summer as I can, before I start grad school in earnest and will be told what to read. This weekend will be another write-as-much-as-I-humanly-can one, trying to get all my materials ready to turn in by Monday. I'm not sure if I'll be able to alter the outline the way I want to in time to turn it in, but I'm going to attempt it. I may burn out that last remaining neuron in my brain doing it, but I'm going to try.
