I finally got my schedule for Trinoc*con this coming weekend, and it doesn't look half bad:

Friday

7pm: Meet the Guests party
Come say hello. I won't bite. Really.

Saturday

9am: Taboos in Modern SF
Sex, religion, and violence, have all been taboos in the past. What are the current taboos in speculative fiction, and how do they make it difficult to get some works published?

1pm: Writing Groups, Workshops, and Critiques
What do writing groups, workshops, intensive seminars like Clarion, and other critiques have to offer the aspiring writer? What are the risks and downsides?

7pm: When the Characters Take Over
Every writer seems to have stories about when their characters do things the writer didn't plan. How often does it happen, and what is an author to do?

8:30pm: Reading
A maybe-not-dramatic-but-certainly-interesting reading of two short stories, "Night Off" and "Watersnake, Firesnake".

Sunday

10am: Tools of the Trade: Polishing the Writer's Art
Advice on developing a personal voice, and writing stories for publication. This includes all aspects of the craft, from markets and story sizes, to how to take and give critiques.

So there you go. Apparently, I'll be a busy little bee during the weekend. Hope to see some of you there, especially at my reading; I need all the support I can get.

In other news, have you guys seen Banzai yet? Oh my god, this is one of the funniest damn shows I've ever seen. It comes on Fox Sunday nights and is an interactive game with the viewer. They have a bunch of weird competitions or games (like seeing how long two blind women in bumper cars can go without crashing into each other, or how many dozens of balloons it takes to lift a chicken, or which Freddie Mercury impersonator can hang from a soccer goal the longest), and you can log in to the website and "Place Bets Now!" on what you think the answer will be. I haven't done the interactive part yet, but just watching it leaves me in stitches.

And I started A Storm of Wings, the second Viriconium novel last night. It's incredible how drastically Harrison's writing changed from his first novel. It's already so much better. I also, over the past few weeks, got caught up reading issues of Say..., The Journal of Pulse-Pounding Narratives, Electric Velocipede, Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet, and the Small Beer chapbooks. I had bought them a while ago, and they were just sitting on my bookshelf, so I started plowing through them. I am more determined than ever to do a chapbook with Janet, and some of the design ideas she's coming up with will blow you away.

Now Reading:
Viriconium by M John Harrison

Stories Out to Publishers:
14

Books Read This Year:
27

Novel Word Count:
9200
