The thing I love about reading in a coffehouse for two hours (which I did this morning), is that I smell like mocha latte for the rest of the day. Yummy. The Global Village coffeehouse just absolutely rocks.

So last night I nearly broke my toe. As I was walking out of my home office, I smashed my left foot against the door frame, hard enough that I was unable to speak for several seconds. Some of you may recall that I did something similar to my right foot not long ago. I hopped around for a few minutes, screaming obscenities and punching the wall, then limped over and flopped down on the couch to check my little toe. No blood was evident, and no bones were poking through the skin. I tried moving it a little with my fingers to see if it was actually broken and shrieked in pain again. The toe will move on its own, so I'm assuming it's not broken, just bruised and banged up real bad like the last time, though it hurts like a bastard today. I haven't been able to put a lot of weight on it, and have consequently been limping everywhere, producing a sshhhhh-clomp kind of motion. I've noticed that to compensate, my left foot kinks out at a forty-five degree angle.

What the hell is it with my toes and door frames? This is at least the third time I've done this in the past few months, hard enough that the pain last for several days, if not a week. It never happens when I wear shoes, or even socks. My bare feet seem inexplicably attracted to the frames of doors, like they used to be attracted to the wheels of my bed frame. Maybe I just need to make sure I'm wearing socks all the damn time.

We had a lively discussion on DeLillo's The Body Artist in class today. I think DeLillo is a fascinating writer, and this book in particular is fantastic example of literary minimalism. I'm still not quite sure what the ending means, but I like the book.

I had a very nice talk with my lady last night, most of which was about how the chapbook turned out. Y'all are in for such a treat. The printing company she went through in Singapore was able to do a full-bleed color cover, and the interior text, though photocopied, looks like it was profesionally printed. The only weird thing is that they used extra-thick staples, which makes the middle of the book bulge open slightly when you lay it flat, but I'll try to put some textbooks on top of them so that they don't spring up as much.

Well, tomorrow evening I'm flying to Chicago and will be there all weekend for my cousin Katie's wedding. She's the first one of my cousins to get married, though she's the fourth or fifth oldest. I'm the oldest, and I'll be second in line. I don't imagine I'll have a ton of time to study over the weekend, but I'll still be taking books along with me. Then in two more weeks, I'll be leaving for Washington, DC. Woo! Man, this has come up fast.

Oh, and if you're in the Raleigh/Cary area, go check out Taylor at Six String on Saturday.
