Margot Livesey As part of the Owen-Walters Readings Series, the NCSU English department will host Margot Livesey tonight, author of such cool books as Eva Moves the Furniture. She was born and grew up on the edge of the Scottish Highlands and now lives in the US near Boston, which means she'll most likely be reading in a cool Scottish accent. She is also the author of three other novels, Homework, Criminals, and The Missing World, a collection of stories, Learning by Heart, and is the co-editor of Writing about Literature: An Anthology for Reading and Writing. Her stories have appeared in Story, American Short Fiction, North American Review, Prairie Schooner, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere, and she has received grants from the NEA and the Guggenheim Foundation. Livesey has taught in numerous writing programs including the Iowa Writer's Workshop, the University of California at Irvine, and most recently Emerson College.

Eva Moves the Furniture The reading tonight is at 7:30 p.m. in room 029 Winston Hall. If you're in the area, I'd highly suggest attending. There will also be a reception afterwards. And she'll be announcing the winner of the short story contest. (Dr. K announced the finalists on Tuesday night, and unfortunately I didn't hear any familiar names, including mine. But he said there was a very high quality of submissions, and they plan on making this an annual contest.)
