This'll be a short entry, since it's already past 10 p.m. and I still need to email my sweetness. Only 185 hours until she steps off the plane and into my arms!
For the first time in a while, I feel on top of things. I got all my classwork read in plenty of time (even reading some during the SuperBowl last night at my parents'), finishing up tonight after work. Things are coming together with the wedding. And instead of feeling overwhelmed at work today (I had to relearn PowerPoint after not messing with it for about seven years), I went online and did a tutorial, then created the presentation and impressed the hell out of my boss. Now that's a nice feeling. She was positive I wouldn't have time to do something for her, and I happily proved her wrong. I also got together a spreadsheet of Southern book publishers and presses (continuing the work from Friday), and had almost 60 entries by the end of the day. "Man, I am so glad you are here," she said, and that made my day. This job is going to be a lot of work, especially during the festival weekend, but I'm starting to feel like I can handle it. When I came home this evening, I wasn't exhausted like I have been for the past few weeks. I was bursting with energy and in a pretty damn good mood. Being told you're good at your job does wonders for the soul. And hey, did you know that there's a brand new novella by Roddy Doyle called "The Deportees" in the new issue of McSweeney's? And that the main character is Jimmy Rabbitte from The Committments? This story made me want to go and read all of Doyle's novels that I own but haven't read yet. The man is a damn genius, and his mastery of dialogue just astounds me. Speaking of good dialogue, Elmore Leonard has a new novel out. Does the guy ever sleep? Speaking of sleep (er, sorry, bad segue), go read some excellent frothy fiction over at Fortean Bureau. You'll realize that you never thought so many stories could be written about beer.
