I have a challenge at work that hopefully you nice people out in the blog-o-sphere will be able to help me with. I've been given the task as editorial assitant at CTE with helping to set up a blog to facilitate discussion between several different government and university agencies, moderated by us. One of the things I have to recommend is what type of blogging software to use, along with a list of features. The list so far is Whatever software type we use, it needs to look professional (since this is for a university organization), be customizable (to integrate it with our upcoming website redesign), and give us autonomy (so that we are not totally dependent on the software company's servers in case they go down).

Also, we would like to be able to use it as a multiblog. In other words, more than one person at CTE should be able to post to the blog (cf. Boing Boing, SF Writers With Boots, and s1ngularity criticism). There should also be the capability for comments and discussion, however we would want to be able to moderate the discussion so that it remains professional. Possibly, we would want to receive the comments first before having them posted in the comments section of the blog.

As much as I dig JournalScape (much love to Kenny and Jenn), I'm leaning toward recommending Movable Type or Blogger the most. Both seem to be capable of supporting multiblogs, and they both look very professional.

I'm doing more research on this, but I'd appreciate any comments from y'all out there. Thanks.
