I always knew I never was a Captain Kirk.
I'd never never lead the team, perform the heroic, or captain the ship. I always strived to be Spock, the logical and intelligent assistant, cool, calm and collected. Not the captain, but the main guy backing him up, ever ready to assist and help with his depth of expertise and steely reserve. As a kid, that's who I would be if we played Star Trek. But I've come to the realization that I'm really more of a Scotty. Just as willing to back up the heros, and not dumb, but not as sharp as a first officer, and someone who's never going to be "the guy". Someone who's going to be working behind the scenes, hidden away in the bowls of the ship, helping do the impossible so the hero can get the applause and the girl, and watching from the sidlines as the captain gets the spotlight. Let's here it for all the Scottys (or Uhuras) out there, who'll never get to be the star, but still keep plugging away for the team, clinging to their little dreams and aspirations. Without us, the ship wouldn't run in the first place. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
