OK, get a camera. Any camera. Heck, a disposable camera will do (though I'm not to hot on disposible things and the trash they make).
Now find a tree. Or maybe a large-sized rock. Or your couch. Now take a roll of pictures, each different, of that single subject. Lay down on the ground and find a new angle on it. Get close and look at the texture of it. Look at what light and shadow do to it. What does it look like at noon? How about sunset? What kind of shadow does it cast? Now develop your roll, and check out your pictures. Take the top 4 or so and think about why you like them, and what you did. If it wasn't a thing, but a person, how would what you've learned change the way you take pictures? Would you're holdiay snaps be different if you tried some new angles with them? It's an eye-opening event to start looking at the regular, mundane things around you in new and creative ways.
